Excellence in General Surgery

When faced with a medical condition that requires surgery, state-of-the-art care could make all the difference. To accommodate the more than 6,000 surgeries performed every year, Olympic Medical Center has expanded the general surgical team to continue providing services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The general surgery team at Olympic Medical recently added two new surgeons to better serve the needs of the community. General surgeons perform a variety of surgical procedures, such as gall bladder removal, appendectomy, colon surgery, hernia repair and breast biopsy.

Olympic Medical’s general surgery team includes:

  • Charles Bundy, MD
  • Georgia Heisterkamp, MD
  • Matthew Levy, MD
  • Sandra Tatro, MD

The general surgery additions represent stability and the availability of surgical services in our community.

“As general surgeons, we collaborate to provide a seamless system of care for patients,” says Dr. Bundy.

Dr. Bundy, who has a special interest in colorectal surgery and endoscopy, is also director of Olympic Medical’s Level III Trauma Center.

“At Olympic Medical, we have well-trained surgeons who perform general elective and emergency surgical procedures,” says Dr. Levy, who joined the Olympic Medical team in April 2010 through a temporary opportunity that led to a full-time position. “People in the community can rest assured that state-of-the-art surgery is available on the North Olympic Peninsula.”

We Know Trauma

In a time of crisis, emergency services can provide the care you need. At Olympic Medical Center, the Level III Trauma Center offers access to emergency care in Clallam County and surrounding areas.

Level III designation is achieved through the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. This designation recognizes Olympic Medical’s ability to provide diagnoses, resuscitation, stabilization and surgery for patients suffering from trauma.

“We are the only hospital our size in about a 75-mile radius,” says Charles Bundy, MD, general surgeon and Trauma Center medical director. “Olympic Medical is prepared to take care of all patients who walk through our doors, and we can transfer patients via helicopter or emergency medical services if necessary.”
